The more I gave away … – Hudson Taylor

The more I gave away … – Hudson Taylor

My experience was that the less I spent on myself and the more I gave away, the fuller of happiness and blessing did my soul become. Unspeakable joy all the day long, and every day was my happy experience.

Joy of the Lord – Matthew Henry

Joy of the Lord – Matthew Henry

The joy of the LORD will arm us against the assaults of our spiritual enemies and put our mouths out of taste for those pleasures with which the tempter baits his hooks.

We are far too easily pleased – CS Lewis

We are far too easily pleased – CS Lewis

We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and seek and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot image what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

Joy is distinctly a Christian thing – SD Gordon

Joy is distinctly a Christian thing – SD Gordon

Joy is distinctly a Christian word and a Christian thing. It is the reverse of happiness. Happiness is the result of what happens of an agreeable sort. Joy has its springs deep down inside. And that spring never runs dry, no matter what happens. Only Jesus gives that joy. He had joy, singing its music within, even under the shadow of the cross.
