God Is Looking For Better Men – EM Bounds

The Church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men. The Holy Ghost does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men … Men of prayer.

Oh, For the Old Fire Again – Charles Spurgeon

Oh, for the old fire again! The Church will never prosper till it comes once more. Oh, for the old fanaticism, for that indeed was the Spirit of God making men’s spirits in earnest! Oh, for the old doing and daring that risked everything and cared for nothing, except to glorify him who shed his blood upon the cross! May we live to see such bright and holy days again!

Don’t build the Ark wider but go Deeper – Leonard Ravenhill

Every magazine I pick up now, Christian magazine, is how to make your church grow. I’m looking for one that says how to take your church deeper! Somebody said to a preacher, “You’ve the biggest church in… How big is your church?” He answered, “Three miles wide and an inch deep”. I think that’s true of a lot of them. Three miles wide and an inch deep. And while it’s humorous, it’s tragic! Are we going to change the style? Are we going to keep steadying the ark? Are we going to say, “No, no, no. We are not going any further like this. We are not going with this cart you’ve got it on. We are going to do it God’s way.”

No Longer Can You Sing – Leonard Ravenhill

No longer can you sing the good old “the Boat of Zion is sailing along” She’s either stuck on a mud bank or sinking pretty rapidly and the only way to get her going again according to some people, it isn’t too serious. All we have to do is repaint the ship… and that will get us out for it will be attractive.

Christianity in Practical Working Order – Oswald Chambers

How as God loved me? God has loved me to the end of all my sinfulness, the end of all my self-will, all my selfishness, all my stiffneckedness, all my pride, all my self-interest; now He says – “love one another, as I have loved you.” I am to show to my fellow-men the same love that God showed to me. That is Christianity in practical working order.
