Prayer

Always respond to every impulse to pray – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Always respond to every impulse to pray – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Always respond to every impulse to pray. I would make an absolute law of this – always obey such an impulse. Where does it come from? It is the work of the Holy Spirit; it is a part of the meaning of “Work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Phil 2:12-13). This often leads to some of the most remarkable experiences in the life of the minister. So never resist it, never postpone it, never push it aside because you are busy. Give yourself to it, yield to it; and you will find not only that you have not been wasting time with respect to the matter with which you are dealing but that actually it has helped you greatly in that respect … Such a call to prayer must never be regarded as a distraction; always respond to it immediately, and thank God if it happens to you frequently.

If you do not pray … – Robert Murray McCheyne

If you do not pray … – Robert Murray McCheyne

Give yourselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word. If you do not pray, God will probably lay you aside from your ministry, as He did me, to teach you to pray.

The extraordinary prayers of God’s people – Jonathan Edwards

The extraordinary prayers of God’s people – Jonathan Edwards

When God has something very great to accomplish for His church, it is His will that there should precede it, the extraordinary prayers of His people … when God is about to accomplish great things for His Church, He will begin by remarkably pouring out the spirit of grace and supplication.

Pray with all your might – William Booth

Pray with all your might – William Booth

You must pray will all your might. That does not mean saying your prayers, or sitting gazing about in church or chapel with eyes wide open while someone else says them for you. It means fervent, effectual, untiring wrestling with God. [Be sure that with] this kind of prayer, the devil and the world and your own indolent, unbelieving nature will oppose.

Pray and Pray and Pray – RA Torrey

Pray and Pray and Pray – RA Torrey

Do not just begin to pray and pray a little while and throw up your hands and quit; but pray and pray and pray until God bends the heavens and comes down.
