Never give in – Winston Churchill

Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
– Winston Churchill –

If Men knew – Thomas Brooks

The main reason why men dote upon the world, and damn their souls to get the world, is, because they are not acquainted with a greater glory. Men ate acorns, till they were acquainted with the use of wheat. Ah, were men more acquainted with what union and communion with God means, what it is to have ‘a new name, and a new stone, that none knows but he that hath it’ (Rev. 2:17); did they but taste more of heaven, and live more in heaven, and had more glorious hopes of going to heaven, ah, how easily would they have the moon under their feet.

Daily Dependence – Charles Spurgeon

The glory that overflows to Christ from our daily dependence is seen in His becoming to us our daily bread. His flesh is meat indeed, his blood is drink indeed (John 6:55), and we must feed upon these continually or die. Eating is not an operation to be performed only once, but it is to be done, throughout life. Likewise, we have to go to Jesus again and again and find sustenance in him as long as life lasts.

O Brother, Pray – Andrew Bonar

O brother, pray; in spite of Satan, pray; spend hours in prayer; rather neglect friends than not pray; rather fast, and lose breakfast, dinner, tea, and supper – and sleep too – than not pray. And we must not talk about prayer, we must pray in right earnest. The Lord is near. He comes softly while the virgins slumber.

Devotion Signifies a Devoted Life to God – William Law

Devotion signifies a life given, or devoted to God. He therefore is the devout man, who lives no longer to his own will, or the way and spirit of the world, but to the sole will of God, who considers God in everything, who serves God in everything, who makes all the parts of his common life, parts of piety, by doing everything in the name of God, and under such rules as are conformable to his Glory.

– William Law –
from A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life, 1729

Breath of God – Dr. Hatch

Breathe on me, Breath of God, till I am wholly Thine, until this earthy part of me glows with Thy fire divine.
